Backlinks are links between pages on different websites.
Your site has a backlink from the person who links to it. When you connect to another website, you are giving them a backlink.
Why are Backlinks Important in SEO?
Rankings
Backlinks are viewed as affirmations of trust by search engines like Google. In general, your web pages have a better chance of ranking for relevant search terms the more votes they receive.
Backlinks can improve both your Page Authority (PA) and your Domain Authority (DA).
Discoverability
Search engines find new material by returning to previously visited pages to look for fresh links.
If you receive backlinks from popular pages, search engines may find your content more quickly since they revisit popular pages more frequently than unpopular ones.
Referral Traffic
Backlinks exist to direct users to helpful resources. They are clickable because of this.
You receive referral traffic when a visitor clicks on a link to your website.
What is SEO?
Search engine optimisation is known as SEO. SEO is a term used to indicate using both internal and external techniques to boost organic website traffic.
So What Makes a Good Backlink?
Not all backlinks are created equal. Here are some of the many attributes that contribute to a backlink’s quality and utility.
1. Relevance
Because they are more likely to be clicked, relevant backlinks are given greater weight by Google.
2. Authority
Backlinks from strong web pages usually transfer more “authority” than those from weak ones.
But not all backlinks from authoritative pages pass greater authority.
All outbound links on a web page share equal authority, according to Google’s original patent. The link from the page with less outbound links will therefore carry greater authority if you have backlinks from two pages, one of which has more external links than the other.
3. Traffic
You will typically receive more referral traffic from backlinks from high-traffic pages than from low-traffic pages. That is definite. The actual query is whether links from popular pages have a greater beneficial impact on rankings than links from less popular ones.
Short answer: Rankings and backlinks from pages with organic search traffic are clearly correlated, albeit weakly. However, it appears that page-level authority and the sheer volume of backlinks from distinct websites (referring domains) are more significant.
4. Placement
Some links on web pages probably have more authority than others because people are more inclined to click on links that are prominently displayed.
If a link is in the main content area of a page, uses a font and colour that might make it stand out, and uses text that may make it something likely that someone might click upon it, then it could pass along a fair amount of PageRank.
Dofollow Links or Nofollow Links
Nofollow backlinks don’t usually influence the linked page’s rankings – although in some very cases they can. So make sure your backlinks are do follow.
Anchor Text
Anchor text means clickable words that form a backlink.
Google says that anchor text influences rankings and we use this technique ourselves in SEO.
How to Check Backlinks
There are two techniques to examine the backlinks of a website or web page. Only websites that you own can be used with the first method. You can check hyperlinks to other websites or web pages using the second method.
METHOD 1
Sign up to Google Console. When you do this and add your website as a property you will need to verify the website ownership. This is done by using various methods given by google to add script in to the websites code.
METHOD 2
To check backlinks to a website that you don’t own, use a tool like https://www.seoreviewtools.com/valuable-backlinks-checker/
How to Get More Backlinks
There are three ways to get more backlinks: create them, earn them, or build them.
Earning Backlinks
This occurs when users decide to link to your page after finding your material through search engines like Google, social media, or word-of-mouth. Earned backlinks are organic, in other words.
You can improve your chances of earning more backlinks by creating truly useful content that people should want to link to.
Creating Backlinks
Here, you manually assemble links from other websites to your own. As examples, consider adding your company to online directories, commenting on blogs, and participating in forum discussions.
Building Backlinks
When you ask other website owners, editors, or webmasters to link to your page, this is the time to do it. A distinct value proposition is required for this to succeed. Link building strategies come into play in this situation.
Here are some useful ones:
Guest blogging: One off posts for another website.
Broken link building: Although time consuming this can be very effective. The time is taken up finding dead links on other sites. Once you have them you can reach out and suggest your working backlink as a replacement.
Getting more link backs is a huge topic to cover so we will cover this is a another blog post.
